Vangaurd community health centre serves the community of Bonteheuwel & Langa (2 of the oldest areas in the Cape) and was identified as a proposed ARV site. The Hospital did not have the space to treat patients and distribute ARV’s. We have on average 4000 children attending the hospital per month who are been treated in the same vicinity as the TB patients. This is an enormous health risk for the children as TB is a highly infectious disease and cross contamination is a major problem.
We were approach by the provincial health department to assist in solving this problem. with the help of our generous donors we managed to build a new 12 roomed Infectious Disease Unit and fully equipped it with furniture, stationary and medical equipment.
