SAME and donors make a big impact on Mandela Day 2017

SAME and donors collaborate to fight poverty through education on Mandela Day 2017

On the 18th of July 2017 twenty-one corporate donors came together with learners, the Education Department, Police and the Community Protection Forum embracing the spirit of ubuntu, fighting poverty and making a tangible difference at Diepdale Secondary School, Johannesburg, and Manyano High School in Cape Town.

More than 300 individuals stepped out of their offices to do their part by painting and renovating 23 classrooms at the schools.

The significance of the day is that it is not merely painting classrooms, but getting involved in strategic community upliftment projects. Classrooms were repaired a week before the day, ensuring that a real difference is made. SAME Foundation fights poverty through strategic projects in Education and Health, and both these schools are long-term beneficiaries of the Foundation. At Diepdale Secondary School we will establish two science laboratories, nine maths classrooms and a computer centre. Manyano High School will be the recipient of a new science laboratory.

Principal Mr Munakisi said “This is a new era for the school, as teachers and learners will no longer be greeted by vulgar words as they enter the classrooms.” Diepdale Secondary School is a no fee school facing a wide range of limitations and constraints. All efforts were made for school children to come to a revamped learning environment that motivates them to reach their full potential, and instils knowledge and understanding that education is important.

The class of 2017 is in high spirits and grateful for the work done on Mandela day. Learners were in attendance and participated in renovating the school. They decided to make a pledge and stand out from the crowd by saying “enough is enough!” They will no longer tolerate vandalism and will ensure that they work together with the RCL members to appreciate and make the most of the investment.

We would like to thank the following companies for their involvement in this fantastic initiative: ACE Auto Salvage, Adcock Ingram, Allianz, ARMS Audit & Risk Management, Bidvest Buffalo Tapes, Bidvest Facilities Management, BT Communications Services, Cash Paymaster Services, Conco Group, Emerson Process Management, IDC, Makro Alberton, Medicare Hospital Equipment, Nedbank, Ontec Systems, Peregrine Holdings, Phumelela Gaming, Securitas, Texton Property Fund, Zibonele FM, and Zonke Monitoring Systems.
