Huge Thanks for Wonderful Response to our Urgent Appeal

SA MEDICAL FOUNDATION THANKS THE FOLLOWING DONORS FOR THEIR WONDERFUL RESPONSE TO OUR URGENT APPEAL.

SA Medical Foundations primary focus is to equip our State Hospitals with medical equipent urgently needed to ensure equal quality health care, no matter what your position in life. The Reds Ribbon campaign was launched to create awareness in South Africa regarding the HIV/AIDS pandemic and intends to create a change of attitude to sexual behaviour, dispel discrimination and deal with the stigma attached to HIV/AIDS.

The SA Medical Foundations focus for the 2005 Red Ribbon Campaign has been the Khayelitsha Hospital Site B.

The Khayelitsha Site B Hospital services the poorest communities of the Westem Cape and includes Khayelitsha, Phillipi, Browns Farms and Macassar. The Hospital currently treats 50 000 patients per month of which a large percentage are diagnosed as HIV Positive.

Because of the high rate of HIV the Hospital has a HIV/AIDS Clinic. The clinic treats all HIV positive people including 170 babies on Antiretroviral drugs. The clinic not only treats but educates the population regarding HIV/AIDS but as with many hospitals in this country a lack of equipment is hindering the wonderful work they are doing. So for this year the Red Ribbon Campaign funding will go towards equipping the Khayelitsha Aids Clinic.

We are thrilled to be able to hand over the following equipment to the hospital:

    2 X GLUCOMETERS
    2 X PAEDIATRIC SCALES
    5 X STETHESCOPES
    DINAM CARDIAC MONITORING
    3 X DINAMAP
