Auroro Girls High School (Completed, 2024)

Why Aurora Girls’ High School?

The school demonstrated strong leadership, commitment to academic excellence, and a proven track record—improving their matric pass rate from 50% (2020) to 87% (2021). With limited funding and high need, Aurora was an ideal beneficiary for sustainable impact.

A School Transformed

Through these completed projects, Aurora Girls High School now has dignified classrooms, modern laboratories, and technology-rich learning spaces. More than 1,000 young women have access to the tools and opportunities they need to succeed—helping break cycles of poverty and shape brighter futures.

Aurora Girls High School – Completed Education Projects

Transforming Learning for Over 1,000 Girls in Soweto

Aurora Girls High School in Zola, Soweto, is a high-performing school despite facing severe resource shortages. The SAME Foundation partnered with the school to complete two major projects that now benefit 1,015 disadvantaged female learners:

  1. The Desks & Chairs Project

  2. The STEM Infrastructure Upgrade

STEM Infrastructure Upgrade

The school’s computer centre and science labs were outdated and under-resourced, limiting the quality of STEM education.

Our Intervention

  • Two fully equipped computer centres

  • Three modern science laboratories for Natural Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Life Sciences

  • Teacher training, IT support, and a structured maths and science development programme

Impact

  • Increased computer literacy

  • Improved science and maths performance

  • Enhanced teacher morale and confidence

  • Access to world-class STEM learning for all grades

Desks & Chairs Project

Before the project, many learners sat on the floor or used broken furniture due to a lack of desks. As a no-fee school, Aurora had no budget to replace them.

Our Intervention

The SAME Foundation supplied 200 high-quality double desks, fully equipping 12 classrooms. Every learner in these rooms now has a proper desk and chair—restoring dignity and creating a functional learning environment.

Impact

  • Improved comfort and concentration

  • Equal access to basic learning tools

  • Durable furniture that supports long-term use
