Altmont Technical High School (Completed, 2021)

Altmont Technical High School is situated in the informal settlement of Protea South, Soweto, and is classified as a Quantile 1 no-fee paying school as it serves an extremely poor community. The school places an emphasis on technical subjects such as IT, Engineering Graphics and Design, Physical and Life Sciences, as well as Construction to list a few.

The average matric pass rate over the past five years has been 80%, even with the school’s limited infrastructure and resources.

The SAME Foundation partnered with the school to equip them with four new modular classrooms to increase learner capacity, a new state-of-the-art computer centre was fitted in the school allowing for the introduction of CAT subjects, as well as two brand new science laboratories were installed to assist with STEM education.

Through the increased funding we were able to equip the Engineering Graphics and Design laboratories with suitable furniture, provide new administration computers to support teacher preparation and school administration processes, paved the pathways to the new classrooms, we provided the school with a weatherproof shade area for bricklaying and construction lessons, as well rolled out a science support program for teachers.
