At Hazeldene Primary School in Mitchells Plain, we embarked on a transformative project to establish a fully equipped science lab aimed at enhancing the educational experience for both students and educators. This initiative was driven by our core objectives: increasing pass rates, ensuring that these rates accurately reflect the students’ true abilities, upskilling and empowering educators, and creating a safe, conducive learning environment.

Project Objectives:

• Increase Pass Rates: Providing the necessary tools and environment to help students excel.
• Reflect True Abilities: Ensuring assessments and results align with the students’ potential.
• Upskill and Empower Educators: Equipping teachers with the skills and resources they need to effectively deliver the curriculum.
• Create a Safe, Learning-Conducive Environment: Ensuring the space is secure and designed to facilitate learning.

Work Completed: The new Science Lab at Hazeldene Primary School was brought to life through a series of significant renovations and upgrades:

• Complete Renovations:
  • Infrastructure: Revamping walls, ceilings, doors, floors, skirting, windows, and installing burglar bars.
  • Shopfitting and Resources: Installation of new science lab workstations, chairs, blackout blinds, writing and pin boards, and science equipment aligned with the curriculum. Additionally, we provided an E-learning system, complemented by a 12-month training voucher for educators.

Through this project, Hazeldene Primary School now boasts a state-of-the-art science lab that will foster a love for science and empower students and educators alike for years to come.
