Auroro Girls High School (Current)
Aurora Girls’ High School is situated in Zola, a suburb of the historic Soweto township.
Many of the learner’s parents/ guardians are unemployed and therefore rely solely on Government grants , and the schools funding comes from the Education Department’s allocation which is fully allocated to stationary, books and maintenance. Therefore, there is very little opportunity for improvements to the school. Despite this, the school is known for the good academic results that are achieved at the end of every school year. Aurora was also recognised as Gauteng’s most improved school in 2021, with the matric pass rate increasing from 50% in 2020 to 87% in 2021 (National Senior Certificate exams).
Principal of the school, Ernest Baloyi said “It was through dedication, commitment and hard work from educators and the motivation of our girls”.
SAME Foundation is coming on board to help assist the school with the most basic infrastructure that they need, such as desks and chairs, allowing for a conducive learning environment for the learner’s.
We are aiming to provide the school with twenty quality desks per classroom resulting in 12 classrooms of 40 learners receiving new desks, this will successfully achieve our goal of ensuring all learners have a desk and chair to learners at the school.
