Diepdale Secondary School – Maths, Science and Computer Labs

A school in crisis:
Diepdale Secondary, situated in Diepkloof Soweto is a quintile 1 ranked school, meaning it serves an extremely poor community. The school is in a crisis and the learners and teachers are suffering. Their grade 12 Physical Science and Maths pass rates are 29% and 24% respectively. This school is in dire need of infrastructure, resources and support. These children will not reach their full potential, in fact 35% of grade 12 learners were progressed. This means that even though they didn’t achieve pass marks, they were pushed through the system. These children are not equipped to study at tertiary level, or cope adequately after school. We have to stop this from happening as soon as possible.

The Solution:
Having successfully establish a new science lab, SAME will continue to support this school in need and give them another lab, nine fully equipped maths classrooms, and a computer centre . This project will give the learners and teachers access to all the resources they need to follow the curriculum effectively, as well as provide them with a learning-conducive environment. E-learning systems, which contains learning software is included in every classroom. The Foundation facilitates training and support to the school if required. While the school is in crisis, new leadership is in place who has committed to working with the SAME Foundation to improve the results at the school.
